Inspirers: TEDxNMAMIT

I wake up at 6.30 am in the very relaxing and lazy morning of March 4th 2012, Sunday. I suddenly realize that I quickly need to brush my teeth, dress up in crisp formals and hurry to the bus stop within 7.15 am. My friend had arranged the tickets for the two of us, without which I’d still be snoring in my bed. I was really hesitant to make it happen… come on… it’s a Sunday, and I can always watch the videos of the talks later. But then… although still really lazy… I just went for it.
I was on my way to attend my first ever TED talk at TEDxNMAMIT, hosted in my college NMAMIT, which gave me my degree, my job and my career.
Note: The “quoted” lines in this article are from the TED talk of the speaker in context.

Inspirers: Aniketh D’Souza

Been wanting to write about this person from a very long time but never got the time. To begin with, Aniketh and I studied in the same college for two years. I interacted with him through facebook etc. and even met his younger brother. But till this day… I haven’t spoken to him in person even once! Just met him on a few occassions. Shocking and surprising it may seem… but its true.

I’ve heard a hell lot about this guy. Well, I don’t have to tell you much. Check out this video to know more about this international swimmer.

He’s been among the Top 100 students, invited as Prime Minister’s Guests on Republic Day 2009, the Fastest Swimmer (India 2005) and also recipient of the prestigious Ekalavya Award from the Governor. For some reasons, one of which is the Government’s “don’t care” attitude to upcoming talents, especially in sports other than cricket,    today, Aniketh is busy with his blogs and work at office; and he hasn’t continued swimming as he used to. I think that’s the case for most upcoming sports people. However, from the online interactions and what his close friends have told me, he comes across like a ‘just-another-guy’, with all humility, even after achieving so much at such a young age.

He’s the founder of The Value Network which is really an awesome venture. He also has his personal blog.  What I love is his regular status update quotes on facebook and ‘System is broken’!
One more gem from Mangalore… and I always wanted to add him in this part of my blog. Best wishes Aniketh!

Inspirers: Vinayak Nagri

VinayakNagri (2)This one’s special. I’m a 22 year old who entered the blogging community about a month ago and I’m just about two weeks old on IndiBlogger. While I enrolled my self in the My Demand Contest I found this little… competitor! It was amazing to see how this kid, half my age is blogging, competing, writing, publicizing, and above all maintaining his brand on the web. What more inspiration do I want to continue blogging?

Vinayak Nagri is a 11 year old lad studying in 7th class, K.C. Public School, Jammu,  and is among the smallest bloggers in the world… surely in India! He owns three blogs. MaDbLoGTM is his first blog, where I met him. He had won its domain in a contest. Shaikna and Vinayak with You is the second one, shared with his friend and the third one is Techie Vinayak – “A blog made to make your blog better”… Lol… how cool is that coming from a 11 year old!

He was just 9 years old when he first started “all this blogging things” :-) on 27th March 2007. He VinayakNagri (1)took inspiration from his brother, Shiva Nagri, who owns Crazy blog. For his efforts in blogging at such a young age, he was interviewed on OrkutHeroes.com, featured on Zanilhyder and now he features on Mariouana: Inspirers :-)

He has also written short stories and four novels: Vini Man and Vini Bond, Vini man and Vini Bond 2, Vini Man and Vini Bond 3 and Vini Man and Vini Bond 4. Apart from blogging and books, he loves cricket and surfing the web. His favourite movie of all time is 3 Idiots. No surprises there… he’s on his way to become a Cyber-Rancho! :-) Just like any other kid today, even Vinayak loves his videogames. He’s a WWE Fan and enjoys playing Smackdown vs Raw 2010 on his PlayStation just like me :-)

This kid is here to stay and will grow exponentially as he discovers his way through the web and through life. He stands as one little symbol of how smart, developed, fast and sharp our future generations are becoming! I wish him all the best, to go at greater speeds and inspiring more people. You can meet him on Twitter and Facebook.

Inspirers: Karthik Kastury

KasturyI wanted to write this post long back but I’m glad I kept this for the month-end closure posts. To start with, Karthik Kastury is the reason why I’m writing this post, why I’m blogging and most of all and why I have become such an Internet addict over the past three years! Without his influence, I think I would be an Internet-illiterate by hanging only to Facebook! He’s not only an inspiration when it comes to cyber technology, but also to life’s outlook as a whole.

I came to know Karthik in my first year of engineering but I came to know the Cyber-Crazy-Karthik only in the second year. He currently owns two smash blogs which have a name for themselves on the Internet: his tech blog, DailyApps and his personal blog Karthik.Kastury.in. Most of you bloggers might have already heard his name, but for those who haven’t here’s Karthik.

He began DailyApps on July 26th, 2007 and there was no stopping since. DailyApps silenced all his former critics and ‘dA’ went onto to establish Karthik’s stronghold in the Blogging community. DailyApps has managed to get the attention of leading blogs such as Technorati, Lifehacker, DownloadSquad, Problogger, LaughingSquid and many more. It’s one of the most read tech blogs in India, with over 2000 RSS Subscribers. DailyApps is a blog where posts are read half a million times a month at its peak! It’s a part of the India Technology Blogs Network. To know more on dA click here. Off late, he’s been silent on dA but only to get busy with other endeavours like his new personal blog Karthik.Kastury.in.

Karthik.Kastury.in is just about 45 days old now with 4000 visits so far. To date, it has got about 7000 page views and about 60 RSS subscribers, creating a buzz in the Blogging world. Some of his personal posts have run into debates and discussions, only reconfirming his influential presence on the net.

MobSpotKarthik is a decade old on the Internet and his passion for technology pushes his boundaries further. For his final year project, along with his project team, Karthik created MobSpot. This is a location-aware social networking site, the technology that is now seen in Facebook Places. Unfortunately, he did not get much of a heads-up from his faculty that was needed. Still, MobSpot may be a ‘thing’ of the future.

His creations don’t stop there. For the PayPal Developer Challenge, Karthik is on his way to release the beta version of SocialPay tomorrow! Stay tuned for its release here! SocialPay is a service that let’s you send money to your friends with just a tweet or an update of your facebook status! Money is transferred from your PayPal account to your friends. Wow! Talk about speed and ease!

Kastury2Karthik has not only been an influence to me, but also to many others in my college and around. In our college of NMAM Institute of Technology, Nitte, Karthik was the first person to lead the brigade to host inter-collegiate technical and cultural fests. Following his initiative, his branch, other branches and the college as a whole woke up to the new flavour infused in college life. Until then, I regret to admit that other than academics, there was hardly anything to immerse in our college. He hosted the first Dumb Charades competition in our college, the format of which became tremendously popular in the entire Mangalorean belt and was copied in other colleges as well.

As a noted batch-mate, Karthik had several other medals up his sleeve. He was the Vice President of our college’s Information Science Department, a key member of ‘Pride of NMAMIT’ and a renowned Microsoft Student Partner. Currently, he is employed by Tata Consultancy Services as a Software Engineer. For a 21 year old, Karthik is quite a person. You can find him on LinkedIN, Facebook, Twitter and Friendfeed.

Inspiration is a strong force” – Mario D’Cunha :-) and Karthik occupies one very HEAVY place there… quite ironical to his weight! LOL.

Inspirers: Nelson Mandela – Invictus

TL007642It’s like an understatement to say that Nelson Mandela is an inspirer. Of course he is! And so are many others like Mahatma Gandhi, Mother Teresa, etc. So why exactly am I writing this post then? I was born in the year 1988. I did not know how great Mandela was or of his contributions to history. Even when I studied history in school, I wasn’t that inspired by Mandela at all. But it is when I watched this film Invictus  I got to feel and experience this amazing, positive and humble creation called Nelson Mandela. Here’s the critique of this film that I had published on Absolutely Filmy.

Gist: Nelson Mandela, in his first term as the South African President, initiates a unique venture to unite the apartheid-torn land: enlist the national rugby team on a mission to win the 1995 Rugby World Cup. Mandela with his humility, wisdom and forgiving nature turns South Africa into a land of love from a land of bitter racism!

Morgan Freeman and Matt Damon, nominated for Best Actor in a Leading and Supporting Role respectively, is truly deserved! Check this out… Morgan Freeman nominated for a “Leading” Role… Yep! He played one of the greatest leaders the world has ever seen… Nelson Mandela. This movie is all about how Mandela along with the Captain of the South African Rugby team François, shocked the world by winning the 1995 Rugby World Cup amidst Apartheid, hardships and other discrimination! South Africa was known now, finally for all the good reasons.

If you have been a Class Representative, School/College Leader, or any leader, or even if you haven’t and want to be a leader in the future, watching this movie is the first thing you MUST MUST do. I say, this movie MUST be shown to all leaders in the schools and colleges and even in the Parliament! I got goose-bumps more 6-7 times during the movie; this movie has got great moments, and a very realistic touch. Please watch it. I give this movie 41/2 Stars

invictus

Here’s the poem which is the essence of the movie:

Invictus – by William Ernest Henley

Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll.
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.
